BIGBABYGUCCI

North Carolina rapper/producer BigBabyGucci moved through the 2010s/2020s trap landscape with a relentless release schedule, creating slick verses, earworm hooks, and colorful instrumentals. After debuting in 2016, the MC built traction with a string of back-to-back albums, experimenting with SoundCloud rap into the late 2010s before settling on a signature vocal style in the early 2020s. Debuting in 2016 with single "Gucci Tears" and mixtape "A Fucking Mixtape," rapper/producer BigBabyGucci built inroads into the SoundCloud rap scene with a near-constant release schedule. Though his debut was tied heavily to the hazy, bass-heavy trap of the era, he expanded his sound on subsequent releases Art Hoe Collection (2016), Bigbabyxodus (2016), and Gucci Season 1 (2017), which were catch-alls of modern trap styles. Romance Is Dead (2017) offered more experimental touches, Gucci's Playground (2018) utilized heavy Auto-Tune, and Gucci's Universe (2018) embraced the brighter, more playful dimensions of the genre. In 2019, the musician issued two complementary LPS, Universe 2 and Send Help -- the former was a cinematic, high-stakes affair with dramatic vocal samples and brooding production, while the latter embraced a more breezy trap set, producing multi-million-stream single "Drop Top Lexus." During this period, Gucci kept fans fed with a perpetual run of tracks, issuing over 50 singles and collaborations between 2016 and 2019. The 2020s proved an even more prolific period for the North Carolina MC. Focusing heavily on the Auto-Tune-centric vocals of some of his late-2010s material, the musician's signature vocal style emerged on the 2020 LPs Teen Spirit and Isolated -- while his production style continued to evolve through three 2021 albums, the bassy Assume the Worst, the glossy 1 Night I Took Acid, and the expansive Human. In 2022, he continued his frequent release schedule, issuing further LPs Iridescence, Soda & Syrup, and Summer of Revenge before moving into 2023 with Homesick. Colors, issued later that year, marked his first conceptual LP, testing the musician's production chops with each track sonically themed around a specific shade. The rapper-producer continued to issue a continual string of 30+ singles through this period, alongside founding label Better Temperatures, on which he hosted compilation LP BigBabyGucci Presents: Isolated 2.
