Ben Gernon

Born in England in 1989, Ben Gernon is a British conductor who first came to prominence in 2013 when he won the Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductor’s Award after a unanimous vote. He is also acknowledged as one of the youngest conductors ever to have attained a top position with a British orchestra. He attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying under Sir Colin Davis before continuing studies with Sian Edwards. After winning the Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductor’s Award, he began a series of guest appearances, conducting some of the world’s best orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony, the BBC Philharmonic, and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. His popularity spread throughout Europe in 2017 and 2018 and he conducted the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic, the Oslo Philharmonic, and the Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart. He made his opera debut during the 2018 – 2019 season when he conducted Simon McBurney’s production of The Magic Flute at the English National Opera. Ben Gernon already has several recordings under his belt including Davies: An Orkney Wedding with Sunrise (2016), Blackford: Niobe with Tamsin Waley-Cohen (2018), Rheinberger - Scholz: Piano Concertos (2018), and The Immersive Experience (2020).
