Calema

Calema are a brotherly duo consisting of António Mendes Ferreira and Fradique Mendes Ferreira from Sao Tomé and Príncipe. Taking their name from the meaning a special swell on the African coast, it is a nod to their upbringing which they describe as being "born in the jungle, surrounded by the sea".

Developing a passion for music from an early age, both brothers pursued degrees in the music industry, travelling to Portugal in 2008 to do so. After graduating in their respective studies of Video Production and Multimedia, they moved to France in 2011 and posted videos of cover versions to YouTube and eventually signed to label Klasszik and released their debut album 'A Nossa Vez', which peaked at number three in the Portuguese Albums Chart. The title track became massively successful and ended 2017 as the most-viewed music video sang in Portuguese on YouTube.
