The bubbling groove of Swedish trombonist Nils Landgren’s Funk Unit…

A sparkling groove machine: Nils Landgren’s Funk Unit upholds the flame of the most virtuoso jazz funk. For their tenth album, the internationally acclaimed gang welcomes a prestigious guest: guitarist Ray Parker Jr., the funk expert from Detroit with a resume the length of the Great Wall of China, on which we find Stevie Wonder, Rufus and Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Bill Withers, Michael Henderson, Jean-Luc Ponty, Boz Scaggs, Herbie Hancock, Tina Turner, Diana Ross and even the soundtrack to Ghostbusters!

Another big name took part in the making of Unbreakable: trumpeter Randy Brecker, strengthening an already virtuoso gang (Magnum Coltrane Price on bass, Andy Pfeiler on the guitar, Jonas Wall on the saxophone, Petter Bergander on keyboard and Robert Ikiz on drums) led with a strong hand by the Swedish trombonist. Unbreakable glides with ease between jazz fusion, pure funk, soul and rock, with a particular attention to vocals, without omitting to honour past legends (beautiful covers of Allen Toussaint’s Just a Kiss Away and Marvin Gaye’s Rockin’ After Midnight). An album that thumping bass and effusive brass section enthusiasts will certainly appreciate.
