The Source & Candi Staton

Such were the vagaries of the early electronic scene, that when Source Records put out a dance remix of an obscure Candi Staton track in 1986, they were completely unaware of whom it was produced by and simply credited it as The Source. But when British producer John Truelove remixed the track adding a Frankie Knuckles Chicago House beat to Staton's soaring vocals it became a legendary club classic and a UK Number 4 single in 1991. With Truelove adopting The Source as his moniker, new mixes of the track would again become hits, reaching Number 3 in the UK in 1997 and Number 7 in 2006. Truelove signed with XL Recordings as The Source in 1997, releasing the EP Clouds featuring remixes of the Chaka Kahn song, but it was under the name Lectrolux and New Voyager that he became more commonly known. Cover versions by Joss Stone and Florence and the Machine have brought You've Got The Love to a new generation, but it's as a deep house anthem that the track remains iconic.
