Murcof is the stage name of Mexican electronic musician Fernando Corona, born on July 26, 1970, in Tijuana, Mexico. He was exposed to music through his musician father, who encouraged his son’s interest by buying him an organ to play on. Later, he became interested in electronic music and formed the group Vortex with two of his friends. He later participated as a keyboard and guitarist for several musical projects in the world of jazz fusion and progressive rock, as well as the band Nortec Collective. It wasn’t until the year 2002 that he started making music under the Murcof moniker, with his first track under that name being “MF Relay.” This led to the release of the first Murcof album Martes, The following year, he released the Ulysses EP, followed by the second full-length Murcof album Remembranza in 2005. He moved to Europe in 2006 and released the album Cosmos the following year. Murcof was invited by Les Grandes Eaux Nocturnes (an annual festival in France) to compose a 6 speaker composition for a fountain display in the Jardin du Roi, which resulted in the album The Versailles Sessions. He was also commissioned by the Contemporary Music Network of England to create the show Océano. Murcof continued releasing music over the following years, and in 2021 released The Alias Sessions.
