Polimá Westcoast
Santiago-born vocalist Polimá Westcoast emerged in the 2020s as one of Chile's most promising young talents, landing the 200-million-stream reggaeton hit "Ultra Solo (Remix)" in 2022.
Polimá Ngangu Miguel Orellana was born and raised in Santiago's Independencia district, beginning his musical career at age nine in the church choir. Quitting college to focus on music full-time in 2015, he didn't land his first major singles until 2018: "Brokeboi" had local success by embodying the "Brokeboyz" movement of young Chilean musicians, while the Ceaese collaboration, "Te Quiero Ver," soon gained over 50-million streams online. After issuing his first two albums in 2018, No Love More Bitches and Las Crónicas de Ngangu, Westcoast signed with Sony in 2019, releasing a collaborative LP EQUILIBRIO with Young Cister later that year. His first years at Sony were defined by a relentless output of singles -- he issued a total of 21 tracks in 2019 and 2020 alone -- as well as a wider range of collaborators including the likes of Seven Kayne, Duki, Pablo Chill-E, Ak4:20, and Bizarrap. A further studio album followed in the trap-centric Las Crónicas de Ngangu 2 (2021), which saw the rapper continue to embrace his airier and more melodic side.
In February 2022, Westcoast had a breakout hit with the Pailita collaboration "Ultra Solo." An immediate hit on streaming platforms, the track shot to number nine on the Billboard Global 200, before a remix (featuring Feid, Paloma Mami, and De La Ghetto) catapulted it to over 200-million streams online. Both the song and its remix received numerous nominations at the Premios MUSA and Premios La Junta award shows, with Westcoast winning both Best Reggaeton Artist and Song of the Year at 2022's Premios La Junta. He had more hits that year in collaboration with Pablito Pesadilla ("Baby Otaku") and J Balvin ("Kawaii"), along with the Quevedo and Mora collaboration "Lacone."
