Jürgen Marcus
Pop and schlager singer Jürgen Beumer - born in Herne, West Germany on June 6, 1948 – was better known by his stage name Jürgen Marcus. His debut single, “Nur du (El Condor Pasa)”, was released in 1970 and rose to Number 32 on the singles chart in Germany. He scored a series of hits throughout the 1970s including four Top 10 singles: “Schmetterlinge können nicht weinen”, which reached Number 8 in 1975, the Number 3 hits “Ein Festival der Liebe” (1973) and “Ein Lied zieht hinaus in die Welt” (1975) and his biggest hit, “Eine neue Liebe ist wie ein neues Leben” (1972), which reached Number 2. Jürgen Marcus released an additional ten Top 40 hits and a series of albums including En Festival Der Liebe (1973), Der Grand Prix D’Amour (1974), Ich bin Jürgen (1976), and Ich Will Dich So, Wie Du Bist (1982). He participated in the 21st Eurovision Song Contest in 1976, representing Luxembourg with the song "Chansons pour ceux qui s'aiment", which took 14th place. By the end of the 1970s, his recording the hits dried up and Jürgen Marcus stepped away from the spotlight. He returned to the music scene with several albums released between 2004 and 2011. He officially retired from performing in 2017 due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Jürgen Marcus died on May 17, 2018, just a few weeks shy of his 70th birthday.
