John Lindahl
John Lindahl is a pop singer, songwriter, and dancer whose bright falsetto and hooky, R&B-infused sound took him from a finalist spot on The X Factor in 2011 to a solo career. Following collaborations with Logic, RedOne, and Boyz II Men, he released his 2020 debut full-length album, Opening Night.
Born in 1980 in Chevy Chase, Maryland, Lindahl was raised in Mission Vejo, California, where he became interested in performing at a young age. Growing up, he listened to a mix of pop, rock, and soul artists, including Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, and Lauryn Hill, as well as Michael Jackson, Queen, and Led Zeppelin. With a background in musical theater and as a multi-instrumentalist, Lindahl auditioned for the inaugural season of The X Factor as a 14-year-old in 2011. He was eliminated in early rounds but extended his run in the group InTENsity with nine other contestants. They went on to a 12th place finish. Epic Records took notice of Lindahl's early auditions, however, and offered him a five-album record deal. Though he parted ways with the label without releasing any music, he made some industry connections and had the opportunity to write with a handful of elite songwriters.
In December 2014, Lindahl re-emerged with a cover of "This Christmas," featuring Boyz II Men. Meanwhile, he had made an impression on Bobby Campbell in writing sessions, and, in 2015, the studio specialist introduced Lindahl to rap star Logic. As a result, he joined Jessica Andrea as a guest vocalist on "Flexicution" from Logic's July 2016 mixtape Bobby Tarantino. That same month, Lindahl released his own mixtape, Control. The following year he released the stand-alone single "Gimme One Chance" with production by RedOne, and he lent vocals to Logic's Everybody album. The rapper returned the favor by appearing on Lindahl's "The Feeling" single later in 2017. His EP Changes arrived on Logic's Elysium label in December of that year. In 2020, the singer released his debut full-length, Opening Night, via Logic's Def Jam imprint BobbyBoy Records. Included on the album was the spotlight track "All Night."
