Erdmöbel

Formed in 1995 in Münster and subsequently based in Cologne, the lighthearted German pop/rock band Erdmöbel are comprised of Markus Berges (songwriting, vocals, guitar, trumpet), Ekimas (production, guitar, trombone), Chris deWueb (drums), and Jürgen Diehle (bass). Erdmöbel made their recording debut on NRW Records with Das Ende der Diät (1996), and two more albums for the label followed, Erste Worte Nach Bad mit Delfinen (1999) and Erdmöbel Versus Ekimas (2000). The band then switched to Tapete Records for its next three albums: Altes Gasthaus Love (2003), Fotoalbum (2004), and Für die Nicht Wissen Wie (2005). In 2006 Erdmöbel signed a major-label recording deal with Columbia Records, which began with the one-off single "Weihnachten (Last Christmas)," the band's first chart hit (number 84 on the German singles chart). Next for Erdmöbel on Columbia came No. 1 Hits (2007), a German-language covers album (as much homage as parody) comprised of well-known songs including Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (performed as "Riecht Wie ein Teen Spirit") and Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head" ("Aus Meinem Kopf"); the album proved popular in Germany and became the band's first to chart, peaking at number 24.
