DIP Doundou Guiss

Dip Doundou Guiss is a Senegalese rapper who rose to success in the late 2010s with a distinctive flow and a feel that is equal parts precision, grit, and moody sensuality. Albums such as 2016's Tay Leu Kagn and 2019's Loo Ñeme Ñàkk, as well as collaborations with artists like Lefa and Locko, helped establish him as the country's most popular rapper. Inspired at a young age by regional forebears like Daara J and Positive Black Soul, Dominique Preira developed his own unique rhythmic freestyle flow and in 2011 launched the group Doundou Guiss with fellow rapper Swazi. Although the partnership was short-lived, he opted to continue on as a solo artist using the name Dip Doundou Guiss and signed on with the Dakar-based Rep'Tyle Music label. Following the initial success of early singles like "Hors Norme" and "Yakarouma Ci Ken," he broke out with his 2016 debut album, Tay Leu Kagn, which featured guest spots from CeePee, Titi, and Marema. An array of stand-alone singles were released over the next two years, with his follow-up full-length, Loo Ñeme Ñàkk (often shortened to LNN), arriving to much fanfare in 2019. The next year, Dip Doundou Guiss issued the single "ànd xeex coronavirus."
