David François Moreau
David François Moreau is a composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist known for his soundtrack work. Moreau first garnered attention working with his sibling, singer Patrick Bruel, before moving into composing for film and television. He has also composed larger works for ballet and modern dance companies.
Born in 1972 in Paris, Moreau took piano lessons from a young age, but quit his formal studies early on in favor of pursuing his own personal course. Along with piano, he taught himself the accordion, as well as various wind and percussion instruments. Drawn to a mix of classical, jazz, and contemporary creative music, he studied the works of composers like Carlo Gesualdo, Robert Schumann, Pierre Boulez, Warne Marsh, and others. He also formed a lasting creative partnership with his half-brother, singer Patrick Bruel, with whom he debuted on 1990's Alors Regarde. Together, they have recorded a bevy of highly regarded albums, including 2001's Juste Avant, 2006's Des Souvenirs Devant, and 2012's Lequel de Nous. This led to film work, first on television shows like Petits désordres amoureux and This Violent Earth. He then moved on to film with 2001's Les Jolies Choses, 2004's Une vie à t'attendre, 2009's Sommeil blanc, and 2011's Des vents contraires. Moreau has also composed works for modern dance and ballet companies. In 2022, he released the album Extrawelt.
