Baby V.O.X
Baby V.O.X became one of the first K-pop bands to enjoy international success during the late 1990s and early 2000s, with the group charting multiple hits throughout South Korea, Thailand, and China. Formed in 1997 in Seoul, South Korea, the project initially featured Kim E-Z, Lee Hee-jin, Jung Hyun-jeon, Cha Yu-mi, and Jung Shi-woon. This founding lineup appeared on one album, 1997's Equalizeher (Voice of Xpression), whose release was followed by the departures of Hyun-jeon, Shi-woon, and Yu-mi. Three new vocalists — Kan Mi-youn, Shim Eun-jin, and Lee Gai — were added to the roster, and Baby V.O.X introduced a more commercial sound with 1998's Baby V.O.X. II, which reached number 9 in South Korea. The pop single "Ya Ya Ya" became the band's first Top 10 hit. Yoon Eun-hye replaced Lee Gai in 1999, and the group reached Number 1 on the South Korean singles charts with "Get Up" and "Killer," both of which appeared on the album Come Come Come Baby that same year. 2000's Why and 2001's Boyish Story both charted within the Top 10, and Baby V.O.X returned to the top of the Korean pop charts with "Coincidence," a Number 1 single that appeared on the band's first compilation, Special Album, in 2002. Devotion arrived one year later and featured the single "I'm Still Loving You," which became the group's first Number 1 hit in China. A second single, "What Should I Do," charted at number 3 in China, number 4 in Thailand, and Number 1 in South Korea. After the release of the gold-certified album Ride West in 2004, members of the group began to leave Baby V.O.X's lineup, and the band eventually called it quits in February 2006. Kan Mi-youn pursued a solo career after the split, while Lee Hee-jin, Yoon Eun-hye, Kim E-Z, and Shim Eun-jin all rebranded themselves as actresses.
