Amal Hijazi
One of the 21st century's most popular Lebanese pop singers, Amal Hijazi was born in Beirut on February 20, 1977. Her 2001 debut, Akher Gharam, became the highest-selling debut album by an Arabic female artist in history, while 2002's Zaman cemented her popularity throughout the Middle East. Hijazi's follow-up albums — 2004's Bedawwar A Albi, 2006's Baya al Ward, 2008's Keep al Amar, and 2010's Waylak Min Allah — all dominated the Lebanese market, resulting in a long string of chart-topping singles. By 2017, however, Hijazi had grown tired of pop music, announcing that she would abandon her previous career and, instead, only perform religious music.
