Aiko el grupo

Spain's Aiko El Grupo take inspiration from noise pop predecessors like Joanna Gruesome and Veronica Falls as well as the spirit of riot grrrl acts including Bikini Kill and Bratmobile. Their emotionally and sonically scrappy debut LP, Va Totalmente en Serio…, appeared in 2020 and was followed in 2023 by Me Estan Apuntando Con un Arma, an album whose denser textures featured heavier guitar tones and more conspicuous keys. Aiko El Grupo was established by guitarists/vocalists Teresa "Tere" Iñesta and Lara Miera with keyboardist/vocalist Bárbara López. Following a few practice sessions and informal shows as a trio, they completed the lineup with drummer/vocalist Jaime Acosta, who offered to play with them after attending their first official concert. Aiko quickly won more fans with their intense live performances, and their first single, "A Mí Ya Me Iba Mal de Antes" b/w "Si Me Conoces Tanto (¿Por Qué Me Haces Sufrir?)," was issued on Elefant Records in March 2020. Both songs appeared on their first album, Va Totalmente en Serio…, that December, and they sold through a limited colored vinyl pressing on Elefant almost instantly. While the bandmembers hail from different cities and moved around to attend college, by that time, they were based in Madrid. Their cover of El Columpio Asesino's song "Toro" followed in late 2021. For their second album, Aiko El Grupo enlisted Carlos Hernández (Nombela) to produce and mix. The finished Me Estan Apuntando Con un Arma arrived on Elefant in October 2023 sporting a heavier, more fleshed-out sound and equal amounts of disappointment and irreverence. In the meantime, their midyear cover of El Columpio Asesino's song "Toro" had garnered over a million streams.
