A true one hit wonder… One album and that’s it! An album released during the autumn of 1990, carried by one of the most perfect singles in the history of pop music: There She Goes. Following the footsteps of their illustrious elders from the 60s (The Kinks, The Beatles, Small Faces) the La’s perform marvel after marvel, pop songs sculpted with an edgy, at times pristine guitar, incredibly catchy choruses and musical arrangements of insane purity. But this noble parentage does not weigh heavily on the album, as the Lee Mayers crew don’t make it feel like taxidermy. Much like their fellow countrymen from Oasis, Jam, Smiths and Blur, the La’s were able to digest their elders’ precepts and adapt them to their time. © MZ/Qobuz
