Mainstream rapper Trippie Redd closes out 2023 with the seven-song EP Saint Michael, which follows his studio album Mansion Musik and mixtape A Love Letter to You 5 as his third release of the year. Trippie's vocal performances push a little further than usual, with some Young Thug-esque weirdness on the flows of "1716 Osage" and aggressive Auto-Tune on the melodic singing of the BANKS-assisted closing track, "Saint Michael Myers." The EP tries a few different stylistic lanes, with a chopped anime soundtrack sample guiding the simplistic but effective beat of "Van Cleef Island," blown-out production on rage track "Ok, Cool," and R&B-flavored introspection on a few of the other songs. Despite a few stabs in the direction of innovation, Saint Michael is largely as generic and forgettable as most of Trippie Redd's output, even if it's generic in more ways than usual.
