Only a year after Please Be Mine, an impeccable, almost vintage first album, Molly Burch hasn’t wasted any time and once again shows off her vocal range from another time… The voices of Patsy Cline, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone surrounded her in the home where she grew up in Los Angeles, before studying vocal jazz in North Carolina. There, in Asheville, Burch met guitarist Dailey Toliver, the perfect accomplice and a way to test her amazing voice on her own songs and gain some confidence. In order to take things to the next level and reach a larger audience she decided to move to Austin in 2013. It’s in the Texan city that Please Be Mine was born, placing Burch in the same league as Jenny Lewis and Natalie Prass. She once again uses the timeless, sepia-coloured style of some legendary voices from the past with the same aura and charisma in First Flower. Still with Toliver on the guitar, this album is both contemporary and filled with last-century rock music. On Candy, the opening track, she uses a catchy swing before switching to introspection and deception on Next to Me and Dangerous Place, then she aims for the perfect love song on the title track First Flower.
