Algumas duplas míticas marcam a história da música popular e apenas recitar seus nomes ilumina instantaneamente muitos rostos. Sonny & Cher, Jane Birkin & Serge Gainsbourg, Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood, Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris, Les Paul & Mary Ford, She & Him... Agora, uma nova dupla inesperada está se juntando e fazendo sua entrada saudada com um Qobuzissime! De um lado, uma lenda do rock folheada a ouro que ocasionalmente sai de seu covil: Paul Simonon, ex-baixista do The Clash (é ele na capa do London Calling!) e, mais recentemente, integrante do The Good, The Bad and The Queen com Damon Albarn, Tony Allen e Simon Tong. Do outro, temos Galen Ayers, filha do genial Kevin Ayers, o excêntrico britânico co-fundador do Soft Machine que foi um personagem à parte da cena prog e psicodélica de Canterbury... O álbum que os dois acabaram de gravar está, no entanto, a anos-luz de seus currículos carregados de história. Desde as primeiras notas de Can We Do Tomorrow Another Day?, Galen & Paul jogam a carta do disco trovadoresco, do caminhar simples – não simplista – entre estilos, paisagens e territórios. Visceralmente cosmopolita até europeu (cantam em inglês e em espanhol), o álbum oferece uma verdadeira classe na sua indiferença e no seu lado cantor de rua. Aromas de mariachi, sons de reggae, descuido como chovia na variedade italiana e francesa dos anos 60, o álbum de Galen & Paul é retrô sem ser ultrapassado, bem-humorado sem ser escolar e poético sem ser clichê. Mesmo no Yin e Yang de suas duas vozes, a dupla é apoiada por músicos impecáveis (o guitarrista Simon Tong, o baterista de jazz Seb Rochford e Dan Donovan nos teclados) e por Tony Visconti, produtor de Bowie bastante acostumado a “ grandes grandiosos” e até registros faraônicos. Por fim, só para dar um toque a mais, Damon Albarn chega para explodir com sua melódica em alguns títulos. Em apenas 38 minutos, Paul Simonon e Galen Ayers nos levam ao redor do mundo. do mundo deles.
