Lançado em 2018, A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships é o terceiro álbum da banda The 1975. Ao ouvir o disco, fica explícito que o conjunto não é mais o mesmo que apresentou uma efusiva estreia homônima em 2013. As sonoridades se assemelham mais às do segundo disco da banda, mas tudo o que começou a ser experimentado ali foi potencializado neste álbum. As influências do emo e do pós-punk foram deixadas de lado e trocadas por uma abordagem mais pop, em que o líder Matt Healy adota o R&B e outras tendências contemporâneas. Beats eletrônicos programados se misturam com sintetizadores, arranjos sofisticados e baladas suaves, o que faz com que o álbum seja muito heterogêneo sonoramente. As letras são sombrias, mas sempre com um toque de esperança. Isso se relaciona com o processo de produção, no qual Healy teve que lidar com seus vícios.
