About Playlist
T. Rex singer Marc Bolan was one of the pioneers of glam rock. In 1967 he joined John's Children, a mod group for which he wrote the song "Desdemona." The following year Bolan formed the acoustic duo Tyrannosaurus Rex with percussionist Steve Peregrin Took. Together they composed the single "Debora," among other tracks, however, they soon parted ways and Marc Bolan decided to revise his formula. He then recruited Mickey Finn on drums and renamed the band T. Rex, whose compositions would be more electric from that point onwards. Bassist Steve Currie and drummer Bill Legend later joined them, even if most of the press photos only featured the Bolan/Finn duo. The 1971 album Electric WarriorTop of the Pops are often considered to be the beginning of the glam rock movement.
After shining with his hits "Get It On," "20th Century Boy" and "Cosmic Dancer," Marc Bolan was tragically killed in a car accident on September 16, 1977, while returning from a tour with punk band The Damned. Forty-three years after his death, the crème de la crème of international rock have paid tribute to him in the album AngelHeaded Hipster: The Songs of Marc Bolan & T. Rex. This is the perfect opportunity to rediscover his greatest hits!
