About Playlist

Born on October 10th, 1917, Thelonious Monk was not a genius of jazz like the others. He was a planet all by himself. A major actor of the bebop scene that he left quickly enough to create his own semantics. Singer of melodies experimenting swing in a way that had never been tried before and a truly innovative composer ("Blue Monk." "Round Midnight." "Well You Need Not," "Straight, No Chaser" to name but a few ...), Monk lived in another galaxy. Far from conventions. Always challenging himself. Just a few piano notes are sufficient to recognize this style, this musical personality as complex as the man was. Like his compositions, Monk was elusive. His extraordinary music had the singularity to contain the jazz from the past, the one being born, the present and even the one of tomorrow.
