D'Leon's last recording spent an awful long time in the New York salsa charts, and it's easy to hear why. The base is international salsa, the sound on many tracks a splendidly fat, rich big-band one, but above all (like the Dominican bands) these fellows are high-energy. Could Venezuela be brewing the next Big Thing? Odd though it sounds, don't discount the possibility.
