Como Mamas’ second album for Daptone Records is a marvel of soul gospel. Supported by the Glorifiers Band, which includes members from the Dap-Kings, the Menahan Street Band and Naomi Shelton’s Gospel Queens, Ester Mae Wilbourn, Della Daniels and Angelia Taylor put a cappella aside in favour of an absolutely perfect soul instrumental. This choice amplifies the initial power of these Mississippi sisters’ voices and their interpretation of traditional and folk chants.
