Jet, the second release from Welsh singer Katell Keineg, is a diverse musical experience that, at times, is so wispy, it's barely there at all. However, unexpected musical twists and turns and Keineg's lovely, breathy vocals make it difficult for the listener not to be drawn into this work. Working with the well-traveled Eric Drew Feldman, who produced Jet along with Keineg and John Holbrook, the tracks often build in intensity like the lead-off "The Battle Of The Trees," which starts with acoustic guitar and light percussion before reaching a crescendo. Other standout cuts include the odd, hypnotic rhythm of "Ole, Conquistador," the light, cocktail beat of "Veni Vidi Vici" (I Came, I Saw, I Conquered), and the epic grind and fiery vocals on "Mother's Map." The real strength of Keineg is her vocal performance which recalls a less polished Enya, with a bit of Elisabeth Fraser thrown in for good measure. Jet is consistent and consistently enchanting.
