Dana Zemtsov
Violist Dana Zemtsov became one of the most honored players of her instrument early in her career. She has collaborated with top orchestras and chamber players around Europe and beyond.
Zemtsov was born in Mexico City in 1992. Both of her parents, Mikhail Zemtsov and Julia Dinerstein, were violists, and she had lessons from a grandmother. Zemtsov also studied with violist Michael Kugel. A series of prizes in various countries -- Italy, Austria, and Germany among them -- launched her career beyond the student stage, and in 2010 she was named Young Musician of the Year at the Evening of the Young Musician competition in the Netherlands. She represented that country at the Eurovision Young Musicians Competition in Vienna. Zemtsov was featured on the "Stars of Tomorrow" tour in Germany, together with other rising young talents, and she ascended rapidly to the upper echelons of the concert world. She has performed with the Ukrainian National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, and the Stuttgart Philharmonic, as well as with several orchestras in her native Mexico. Her list of chamber music collaborators is long and features such internationally known names as violinist Janine Jansen, pianist Boris Berezovsky, and clarinetist Martin Fröst. Zemtsov has given solo recitals in various prestigious venues, including New York's Carnegie Hall, and she has mounted tours in Denmark and Peru as well as in the U.S. She is in demand on the European festival circuit, having appeared at the Grachten Festival, the International Chamber Music Festival Utrecht, and the Kuhmo Festival in Finland, among many others.
Zemtsov signed an exclusive contract with the Channel Classics label in the Netherlands in 2012. She released the album Enigma: Works for solo viola in 2014 and has remained with the label ever since, releasing the thematic albums Romantic Metamorphoses (2015), Essentia (2018), and Silhouettes (2020).
