On their debut album for Psychopathic's imprint Hatchet House, Flint, Michigan’s legendary thugs the Dayton Family sound immediately at home, threatening to spill blood across the walls in a style much more “real” than their label’s key artist, the Insane Clown Posse. The more cartoonish -- and that’s not necessarily an insult -- ICP show up here for the “poppin’ pills and Jaeger shots” highlight “The Gathering,” which features the classic brotherhood metaphor “we’re closer than testicles.” Hatchet men Twiztid are also here, on the murder time rave-up “Kill,” and freaky hitmaker Gucci Mane helps make “Pill Pop’n” the irresponsible tweaker-loving anthem it should be. The rest of the album is straight Dayton, offering destitution and depravity in a convincing, simple style. “All night bitch, you know I got blood/And that’s your DNA on that rug” is how “Prostitute Killa” wields its axe, while the chilling “Murder City” should be last on the Flint Tourism Board’s list of possible theme songs. With their like-minded brothers, Top Authority, stopping by for a cut plus those juggernaut drums and trunk-rumbling bass providing the backbeat, Charges of Indictment is a Dayton Family album in the classic Flint style, although only their loyal, proudly lecherous following would think of it as such.
