Though a one-time bandmate of Woody Guthrie and namechecked by Bob Dylan as a major folk influence, Tom Paley may have the least name recognition of any legend in the American folk pantheon. But as BEWARE YOUNG LADIES!'s 16 rollicking tracks prove, he surely belongs there. BEWARE YOUNG LADIES!--his first record since a 1998 collaboration with his son--finds this former New Lost City Rambler in fine form. Accompanied by guitarist and mandolinist Bert Deivart, Paley ambles through a set of old Americana folk tunes such as "Hard Times," "More Pretty Girls," and "Bury Me Beneath The Willow" with his trademark breezy banjo arpeggios and hard-scrabble voice leading the way.
