These kids from Antibes probably never imagined they’d conquer the world, on their own and with their music. Anthony Gonzales and Nicolas Fromageau met during high school. Preferring to play with the mixing board rather than spend their days revising for their final exams, they gave birth to M83. Two years after meeting, the two friends released their eponymous debut album in 2001. Dead Cities, Red Seas and Lost Ghosts went on to win international critical acclaim for the French duo’s refreshingly electrifying electro-pop sound. Combining distorted guitars with the omnipresence of 80s-style synthesizers, using their voices instrumentally and creating spaced-out, airy music, M83 quickly became unclassifiable. In their space shuttle, they fly between the electro and alternative rock galaxies. Nicolas Fromageau left the duo in 2004, leaving Anthony without his creative partner. It wasn’t until 2011, with the release of Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, that they achieved worldwide acclaim. The single Midnight City toured the world and allowed the musician to reach for the stars.
