Originally released in May 1965, Stay Awhile was the Kingston Trio's second album for Decca. Unlike their Decca debut, Nick-Bob-John, the emphasis on this album is less on traditional-sounding folk songs. About half the album consists of hearty singalongs in the classic Kingston Trio style. Of those, a spirited "Bottle of Wine," "Hanna Lee," and the title track are the highlights. ("Dooley," it should be said, shares little with the trio's signature song "Tom Dooley.") The other half of the album consists of poppier material, much of it written by newest Trio member John Stewart. While none of it is as pure pop as many of Stewart's post-Trio songs, like "Daydream Believer," there are some folk-rockish gems like "Rusting in the Rain" and the almost Byrds-y "If You See Me Go."
