To mark Saint-Saëns Year, Trio Zadig invites us to admire two essential facets of his art: composition and transcription. Pieces arranged for piano trio – Rameau’s Pièces de clavecin en concerts Nos. 1 and 5 and Liszt’s Orpheus – frame Saint-Saëns’s own Trio No. 2 Op. 92. This programme gives us the impression of travelling through time and space, between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, between Hungary and France... It is a chance to discover or rediscover the compositional skills, sense of form and dialogue, thematic inventiveness and rich harmonies of Saint-Saëns.
