Romantic troubadour William Fitzsimmons hasn’t had an easy year. Mission Bell, his album produced by Adam Landry, takes a look back at some recent and significant events in his life. A first version had been recorded during the summer of 2017, but his break-up with his second wife caused a lot of disruption. As a deeply sensitive soul, he nurses his pain with melancholic, slightly drowsy ballads. He uses synthesisers for a light trance, lulling electric guitars, and almost lyrical violins, a combination that creates a platform for Fitzsimmons to talk about betrayal, reconciliation and forgiveness. Around ten songs for ten years of marriage. With the last track, Distant Lovers, he ponders about fidelity and how to manage the drifting apart of a couple. With Mission Bell, he has written a sincere piece of work that looks to produce an echo of benevolence. © Anna Coluthe/Qobuz
