Nothing else on the Foundations' debut album was up to the level of the memorable hit it was built around, "Baby, Now That I've Found You." It did, however, present evidence of a fairly solid soul group, albeit one that at this point was wholly reliant upon outside material, particularly songs written by Tony Macaulay and John MacLeod, the team responsible for "Baby, Now That I've Found You." Those Macaulay-MacLeod numbers tended toward the poppy side -- "Come On Back to Me" had echoes of the Four Seasons' harmonies, for instance. But a cover of Joe Tex's "Show Me" gave the Foundations a chance to air their funkier side, and "Jerkin' the Dog," "A Whole New Thing," and "Love Is a Five Letter Word" showed more of their partially West Indian roots in the blend of jazzy horns, tight grooves, and soul-bluesy organ, somewhat in the manner of some of Georgie Fame's early material. All of the tracks were reissued on the three-CD set Build Me Up Buttercup: The Complete Pye Collection.
