When he made his grand appearance on the British music scene, he was no longer a newcomer: he was forty-two years old when his Enigma Variations (under the baton of none other than Hans Richter) earned him an undeniably fast-growing international recognition. And with him, two centuries after the death of Britten, the English musical glory was finally reborn...

About Playlist
When he made his grand appearance on the British music scene, he was no longer a newcomer: he was forty-two years old when his Enigma Variations (under the baton of none other than Hans Richter) earned him an undeniably fast-growing international recognition. And with him, two centuries after the death of Britten, the English musical glory was finally reborn which, it must be said, had remained at half-mast throughout the eighteenth century (if we admit that Haendel was Saxon) and even more so during the Victorian era. He opened the door to great composers such as Vaughan Williams followed by Britten... His wide repertoire certainly does not cover all genres, far from it: no operas, no music for piano, but many orchestral pieces, cantatas and especially oratorios can be found, including the brilliant Dream of Gerontius, choral music and some chamber music. Few works in truth, but masterpieces at any rate, one after the other.
