Bleizi Ruz

Taking their name from the Breton words meaning "Red Wolves," Bleizi Ruz perform a high-energy mix of Breton dance music; Romanian, Bulgarian, and American traditional music; and Cajun and gypsy-influenced originals. Formed in 1973, Bleizi Ruz established their early reputation with their turbo-charged approach to traditional Breton dance styles including gavottes, cercles circassiens, and songs. They toured Germany with storyteller and singer Patrick Ewan in 1979. Ewan has continued to periodically perform with the group. Beginning with their third album, Coz Liorziou, in 1983, Bleizi Ruz veered toward more intricate arrangements. Their 1993 album, Hent Sant Jakez, was included on a list of Top Ten best albums of the year compiled by the BBC.
