Na een tweede omweg via greatest hits-land, met Falling Deeper, keert Liverpools Anathema terug met een ware opvolger op We’re Here Because We’re Here. Wat Falling Deeper vooral bewerkstelligde met zijn grote afhankelijkheid van kamermuziek orkestratie was dat de band comfortabel werd met de strijkersarrangementen van Dave Stewart; ze worden hier op Weather Systems veelvuldig ingezet, en met groot effect. Daniel heeft een verzameling nummers geschreven die veel uitdagender, harmonisch ambitieuzer en poëtisch geraffineerder is dan alles wat hij daarvoor heeft geprobeerd. Weather Systems behoort tot Anathema’s beste werk. Ze hebben hier niet alleen het verwachtingspatroon mee doorbroken, maar het wederom overtroffen
