Warm Brandy remains one of the quintessential come-hither pop records of the mid-1950s--Dolores Gray was short on vocal talent but long on legs, and like Julie London's sessions for Liberty (an obvious touchstone), the record's success depends more on what it promises than what it delivers. Gray doesn't sing so much as she curls up in the melody as if it were a chaise lounge--Sid Feller's late-night arrangements further extend the sultry, profoundly adult ambience, with hints of cool jazz that float under the surface like ice cubes.
