During the creation of their sophomore release, Until the Colours Run, Lanterns on the Lake were forced to overcome personal, financial, and group difficulties to record the follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut Gracious Tide, Take Me Home. The loss of brothers Adam and Brendan Sykes from the lineup nearly led to the band calling it a day, but they persevered and the struggle can be heard in the bittersweet lyrics that litter the album. With underlying themes of political and social unrest, the album adds a different, soulful dynamic to the Newcastle outfit's textured indie folk.
