With this hearty double album, Miranda Lambert raises the tone and muscle his pen. One year after her (well-publicized) divorce with Blake Shelton, the Texan makes The Weight Of These Wings a pretty confessional where she deals with the worries of love, of course, but also the problems of bottle, of misery and of everything what makes a life, without forgetting friendship. In 24 tracks, Lambert happily asserts a more brutal country sound and a more rabid musical style, less smooth, than other tenants at the top of the country charts. The Weight Of These Wings even offers quite varied atmospheres, punchy and rock here, more traditional there. And in ballads, his voice touches the sublime without sinking into effects. Some pretty pointed occasions ( Covered Wagonfrom Danny O'Keefe and Shake Russell's You Would not Know Me ) come to this hearty feast that smells of dust and the great outdoors. Finally, for the anecdote, the battery is here driven by the former Pearl Jam, Matt Chamberlain.
