The Terror is het dertiende studioalbum van The Flaming Lips en wellicht zou dat ongelukkige nummer en de onheilspellende titel fans al moeten waarschuwen; dit is een uiterst introspectief en grauw, existentieel album. Het album bestaat uit 9 nummers maar voelt als één lang geheel. Haast als een soundtrack voor een film. Gevoelens als eenzaamheid en wanhoop worden op abstracte, vervreemdende wijze met lagen van statische ruis, keihard overstuurde drums en in galm verzopen zang uitgedrukt. Geen prettig luisteralbum waar nieuwe fans mee gewonnen zullen worden, maar wel een artistieke prestatie om je in vast te bijten.
