Als nostalgie alleen herinnerde, gerepareerde en doorverkochte smart is, dan is The Suburbs de verkoophandleiding. Het album haalt zijn inspiratie uit de opvoeding van broers Win en William Butler die opgroeiden in de buitenwijken van Houston, Texas. Dit derde album van Arcade Fire speelt zich af als een langvergeten zomerweekend, met het luchtige maar melancholische, Kinks-Bowie-achtige titelnummer als steunpilaar. De spanningsboog is zorgvuldig gedoseerd en op conservatieve wijze grandioos.
