Elmore James's genius is an inexhaustible wellspring. A source from which musicians the world over regularly drink, returning again and again and again! His fulgurating slide guitar and impressive falsetto have given a completely unique flavour to Dust My Broom, Shake Your Money Maker, The Sky Is Crying, Twelve Year Old Boy, Done Somebody Wrong, etc. A savage and electric talent, venerated by such giants as Jimi Hendrix, John Mayall, Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, Alan Wilson of Canned Heat and indeed Fleetwood Mac's Jeremy Spencer. … With Strange Angels: In Flight with Elmore James, a splendid range of artists have come together to celebrate the music of the furious bluesman, a follower of Robert Johnson who left us in 1963. This compilation, which spans generations and genres brings together, amongst others, Tom Jones, Bettye LaVette, Rodney Crowell, Warren Haynes with Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top and Mickey Raphael, sisters Shelby Lynne et Allison Moorer, Keb Mo' and Chuck E. Weiss. The level is pretty high overall, and every artist has their own personal touch.
