Northern Cree Singers is a group from Canada that specializes in traditional Native American music, particularly of the frantic drum-and-chant-based powwow type. RED ROCK, a live performance, proves how electrifying the Northern Cree singers can be. Driven by incessant tribal drum lines, the songs on RED ROCK are intense enough to raise hair on the back of most listeners’ necks. Screams, yelps, and ululations are unleashed over galloping beats, invoking at once the powerful tradition of the Native American people and something even deeper: the communion between the human spirit and the world at large.
