Linda Fredriksson
Linda Fredriksson represents the vibrancy and quality of the Finnish music scene. Born in 1985, their musical education was honed at the Helsinki Pop & Jazz Conservatory and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In 2014 they graduated from the prestigious Sibelius Academy. Since then, Linda has been known mainly for their collective adventures with Mopo, a hybrid trio between jazz and punk, Superposition, a free-jazz quartet, and the Ricky-Tick Big Band, which combines hip-hop and jazz. At the same time Linda also collaborates with artists such as Timo Lassy, Raoul Björkenheim, Jimi Tenor and the European Jazz Orchestra. Fredriksson also works as a composer for theatre, film, exhibitions and performances. This all-rounder character is further shown as Linda is also a multi-instrumentalist: alto saxophone, baritone, bass clarinet or flute... It is as an accomplished musician that in 2021 Linda Fredriksson offers their first solo effort, Juniper, a refreshing Qobuzissime, navigating between meditative mantras, refined melodies and free-jazz impulses, all subtly backed up by electronic experimentation but above all an irresistible poetic sensitivity. Not surprising when one observes Fredriksson's claimed influences, ranging from Neil Young to Alice Coltrane via Sufjan Stevens, Pharoah Sanders, Eric Dolphy or Feist. © Alexander Fay – October 2021/Qobuz
