Let Me Go is Philip Selway's soundtrack to the 2017 Polly Steele film that tells the tale of Helga Schneider, a woman whose mother left her in 1941 to join the Nazi SS. Given such a topic, it's not much of a surprise that Let Me Go is an evocative, sometimes eerie listen, balancing austere strings and pianos with delicate guitars. This still music gets punctuated by a handful of fully composed songs with vocals, including the title track, which is sung by Selway. These songs aren't interruptions: they feel like an outlet for the emotions that have been building over the course of the record. What lasts, though, is that sustained melancholy mood, one that Selway skillfully and subtly weaves throughout the whole soundtrack.
