Wie kan er beter een soundtrack voor je slapeloze nachten maken dan Enrique Iglesias, de troonopvolger van de jaren 80-charmeur, zijn vader Julio? Maar Enrique is wel veel hipper dan zijn vader en dat blijkt wel op Imsomniac (2007), zijn vierde Engelstalige album. Het album bevat een overvloed aan romantische ballads, maar het bezit ook een stijlvolle glans dat het geschikt maakt voor clubs en zelfs de langzame nummers kunnen enigszins vuig worden. Iglesias vindt een balans tussen crossover popmuziek en een stijlvolle retro new wave-productie. Maar wat het hem op deze gladde, nette plaat zoals altijd weer doet, zijn de ballads en de middle-of-the-road popnummers. Die zijn misschien niet hip, maar zijn wel onderdeel van de familietraditie. Als hij zich daarbij houdt, is hij in vorm.
