Chaos in the CBD are best known for 2015's "Midnight in Peckham," a dreamy, trumpet-driven house track fit for headphone listening during a rainy night in London. While retaining a wistful, nocturnal feel, some of the duo's other material is a bit more cheerful, delving further into jazz and Afrobeat influences, yet they've also produced music reminiscent of early-'90s ambient house and dub techno. Their first commercially issued mix, presented by iconic London club Fabric, is a smooth mix of feelgood and reflective vibes alike, mainly focusing on little-known deep house gems from the '90s and 2000s. Flutes and horns mingle with slick MIDI synth tones during the opening tracks, sliding into Hanna's haunting, sensual "You & Me" in front of even lusher tracks by Ronin and Chris Brann. The echo-gauzed vocals and wah-wah guitar licks of Psychedelic Research Lab's "Tarenah (Chill Mix)" provide a momentary flashback to an early-'90s beach rave, and tracks by Deep Sided and the Element are playful slices of swinging garage house. The duo shuffle a low-key original, "Higher Elevation," into the mix, though it seems to function as more of an atmospheric placeholder than a standout track. Brothers of the Underground's "Gotta Love" suggests a greater feeling of togetherness and unity, and Kerri Chandler's Brazilian-flavored remix of "I'll Be There" by Blak Beat Niks is both a sentimental love song and a carefree celebration. The final tracks of the mix seem to echo the late hours of the night, when things get a little strange and it's best to start calling cabs to take the more inebriated partygoers home. A dark sense of humor creeps into the set with Box Clever's "I'll Eat You (If You Were a Box)" and relatively tense tracks like Sound Clash Republic's "Raunchy After Dark." Finally, J.D. Hall's "Into You (Johnathan Morning Mix)" sends off the remainder of the crowd with a sense of bittersweet longing.
