De titel maakt het duidelijk: na zich bijna een decennium geconcentreerd te hebben op de akoestische gitaar, keert Richard Thompson terug naar de electrische gitaar. Thompson plukt wel aan een akoestische gitaar op “The Snow Goose” en er zijn andere nummers waarop zijn Stratocaster terug gestopt wordt in de koffer, maar Electric knettert met versterkte energie, zelfs als de instrumentatie behoorlijk zachter is. Er wordt genoeg ruimte gelaten voor Thomspon om duizelingwekkende gitaarsolo’s te spelen, maar het onderscheidende karakter van Electric is het gevoel, hoe producer Buddy Miller een wijd open ruimte heeft gecreëerd voor Thompson, dat uitzicht biedt op de knetterende muzikaliteit en de scherpe nummers. Dit is Thompsons meest levendige album in jaren, en op puur sonische basis, ook zijn beste in een hele tijd.

De titel maakt het duidelijk: na zich bijna een decennium geconcentreerd te hebben op de akoestische gitaar, keert Richard Thompson terug naar de electrische gitaar. Thompson plukt wel aan een akoestische gitaar op “The Snow Goose” en er zijn andere nummers waarop zijn Stratocaster terug gestopt wordt in de koffer, maar Electric knettert met versterkte energie, zelfs als de instrumentatie behoorlijk zachter is.
