Nickelback staat niet bekend voor hun inzicht, maar als Chad Kroeger ons met z'n kattengejank laat weten: "we hebben geen klasse, geen smaak" op "Burn It to the Ground", is dat toch een scherpzinnig, nauwkeurig zelf-onderzoek. Nickelback is een snauwerige, vulgaire band die genoegen schept in hun onbekendheid met goede smaak. Ze produceren lawaaiige riedels die verheven lijken in vergelijking met hun stompzinnige, botte woorden. Van de twee is de muziek veel minder aanstootgevend, vooral op Dark Horse, waarvoor ze samenwerken met de legendarische producer Robert "Mutt" Lange, die kracht geeft aan de zwaarste rockers van Nickelback en kleur toevoegt aan hun krachtige ballades, hiermee een tot nu toe verboten hedendaagsheid suggererend in de vorm van elektronische ritmes.
