The Black Keys gingen naar de legendarische Muscle Shoals studio, namen hun zesde studioalbum zelf op en noemden het Brothers. De studio, en niet te vergeten het artwork, zijn goede indicaties dat de taaie bluesband die The Black Keys was op hun eerste albums, terug is. Maar, ze zijn niet vergeten wat ze hebben geleerd tijdens hun op zichzelf gerichte psychedelische midden-periode. Brothers kan nog steeds behoorlijk trippy worden, maar het album is gebouwd met bloed en vuil, zodat de wildere momenten gruizig blijven zonder te nuchter te zijn.
